Who am I?

I am Herlinda Martinez-Longoria, and I am very proud to be thePrincipal at E. H. Gilbert Elementary in the Harlandale ISD. I wouldlike to share a little bit about myself and my family.  I was born and raised in Corpus Christi, TX where I graduated from Foy H. Moody High School.  I attended Del Mar College and received my Bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with and emphasis in Reading from Texas A& M-Corpus Christi.  I began my teaching career here in San Antonio,at Schulze Elementary, where I spent the first 13 years of my career teaching 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade, including a multi-age classroom for 2nd and 3rd graders for 3 years.  I then received my Master's degree from Grand Canyon University and was named the Academic Coordinator for Gilbert Elementary in 2008.  I served this position for 3 years, I was extremely happy to be awarded the position of Principal of Gilbert Elementary in 2011. This will be my 10th year at Gilbert, and my 23rd year in Harlandale and education.  Many great things have happened for me since my move to San Antonio professionally and personally.  I owe my success to the love, support, and encouragement from my parents and family, but also to the Harlandale district.  If I could put a bumper sticker on my car it would read, "I wasn't raised in Harlandale, but I got here as soon as I could!" I look forward to another year at Gilbert, because as a student body, staff, and community, what we do in life, echoes in eternity!  Welcome to 2017-2018, The Year of the Mustang!

Yours in education,

Herlinda Martinez-Longoria
